  • How do GLP-1 medications work?
It works as an appetite suppressant by mimicking the hormone "glucagon-like peptide-1" (GLP-1), which targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. It increases fullness, delays gastric emptying, and regulates blood sugar levels.
  • How effective is GLP-1 for weight loss?
If individuals are safely receiving the medication in a medical weight loss clinic and follow their program's recommendations, we expect an average body weight reduction of 10%-15%. Please note: Individual results may vary and there are no guarantees for effectiveness or success of any medication. • Do you prescribe brand name medications (Wegovy® or Ozempic®)?
NO. We prescribe compounded glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). We receive all our medications directly from FDA-regulated compounding pharmacies and manufacturing labs that adhere to strict cGMP guidelines and conducts third-party lab testing to ensure our medications are sterile, stable, potent, and safe for use.
  • How is GLP-1 administered and how often do I need it?
It is a once-weekly injection under the skin (subcutaneous), typically in the stomach. Pain is usually minimal as the injection is quick and shallow. To ensure weight loss success, we have patients come in every week so we can monitor their weight progress, manage any side effects, and administer the medication in-office. We do NOT ship or send patients medication vials to draw and administer the medication at home.
  • Who would NOT be a good candidate for GLP-1?
It should absolutely not be used in patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, or have a rare condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2*. *FOR A FULL LIST OF CONTRAINDICATIONS, PLEASE CONSULT YOUR SHAPE & SKIN PROVIDER.
